
This course gives you a jump-start into Red Cross lifeguarding.
If you are between the ages of 11 and 14 GuardStart is for you!
Learn how to prevent drowning and diving accidents, reaching & throwing
assists, self-rescue, providing care for injuries, leadership skills, develop
swimming skills and general physical fitness for lifeguarding responsibilities.
Successful course completion requires participation in skills
practice. The sessions require some strenuous physical activity, so you are
encouraged to check with your family doctor or medical practitioner before
participating. If a medical condition or disability exists that might prevent
participation, or there are questions about fully participating in the GuardStart
program, please contact us to discuss this before the program begins.
To participate in the GuardStart program, the following
skills must be demonstrated:

Swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side.

Tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs.

Submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater.
This is a preparatory course and will not certify anyone to be a lifeguard.
