The Vermont & New Hampshire Valley Region of the American Red Cross will hold their sixth annual Lifeguard Competition at the St. Albans City Pool on August 5th. This fun and important event highlights the work of lifeguards across our region and involves teams competing in all of the skill sets used in this important, lifesaving work.
In preparing for and participating in this event, lifeguards from across the region are given the opportunity to hone their skills. The Red Cross Lifeguard Competition also allows for the competitive nature of this group to shine and to honor the work of these community lifesavers.
Becoming a lifeguard through the American Red Cross is a great way to earn money and respect, serve your community and build professional work skills that will last a lifetime. As a lifeguard, you’ll learn the skills, and have the power, to save lives. Every year, the Vermont & New Hampshire Valley American Red Cross works with towns, camps and swim facility to train lifeguards and water safety instructors.
The Lifeguard Competition will have teams of 4 to 6 guards competing from 5:30 – 8:30pm on Thursday, August 5th in St. Albans. Skills such as Water Rescues, First Aid, and CPR will be tested and real life situations and scenarios will add a realistic feel to this event. There is still space available for teams of lifeguards from any pool, water park or lake to register by calling 1-800-660-9130 x113 or by emailing ecochran@nvtredcross.org. The public is also encouraged to come and cheer on their favorite lifeguard team.
The Vermont and New Hampshire Valley region of the American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. In addition to offering classes in lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid and aquatic safety, the American Red Cross provides disaster assistance, all at no cost, to community members when disaster strikes.  These services range from shelter and food, to clothing and medicine.  Red Cross disaster services are supported by the generosity of donors.
