About Red Cross Clubs and How to Start One
What are Red Cross Clubs?
Red Cross Clubs are part of a nationally
recognized initiative to increase youth involvement in the
American Red Cross. The Northern Vermont Chapter is committed
to supporting and training high school-aged youth in our eight county
jurisdiction to become community leaders, school leaders, Red Cross
volunteers, and mentors to younger students.
Red Cross Clubs can take a variety of forms, including cooperating with an existing club, and can choose a particular focus or goal based on the members' interests and based on the needs of the community. Contact the Northern Vermont Chapter for more information on club organization.
What can I do as a member of a Red Cross Club?
Some ideas for clubs include starting a Disaster Action Team (DAT), training younger students in Babysitting or Basic First Aid (BAT), or forming a community service team. These are only a few of the options; any club can choose a focus that is compatible with the Red Cross mission and work with the Northern Vermont Chapter to form a club based on that focus.
In addition to the satisfaction that comes from helping others as a part of a Red Cross Club, you will receive valuable Red Cross training and leadership training. You will get a chance to meet new people and become involved in your community. Most importantly, you will have the support of the Northern Vermont Chapter, but you will also have a great degree of independence; the sky is the limit to what you can do!
